Louis Feinberg, a kid from Philadelphia, got his start in vaudeville as a violin player. But his comedic talents soon eclipsed his musical ones, and he found fame as a member of the Three Stooges. (Although his musical abilities were put to good use in several Stooges shorts.) Often thought of as “the middle stooge”, he was frequently cast as the ore sensible one trying (and usually failing) to restrain the antics of Moe and Curly. After Curly left the group in 1946, Larry’s roles were expanded and he usually got equal time with the other two.

Along with Moe, Larry was a Stooge for his entire career, appearing in film shorts and feature length presentations from 1930 to 1970, when a stroke he suffered ended his performing career. He would suffer subsequent strokes over the next few years, and died at the age of 72 in 1972.
