Jared was not especially exceptional until he managed to lose a lot of weight, something he attributed to eating at Subway in college. In the years 1998 and 1999, he lost around 111kg – and in the year 2000, he became a brand ambassador for the Subway corporation, performing in-store promotions and appearing in advertisements on television. He was on top of the world.

From 2007 he was under investigation by the authorities for potential involvement in sexual crimes. On July 7, 2015, he was arrested for possession and distribution of child pornography. Additional charges were added, and in November, Fogle plead guilty and was sent to prison, sentenced to 15 years and eight months imprisonment, to be followed by supervised release upon completion of his sentence. Subway distanced themselves from him immediately upon his arrest, and no trace of him remains in their corporate advertising.
