While Robert Kennedy Jr. has done some weird things in his time, this is probably the weirdest. This entry is largely based on Kennedy’s own account of events, as follows:
In 2014, while driving in upstate New York, he witnessed another driver accidentally killing a brown bear cub by hitting it with their van. Kennedy took the bear’s body with him, intending to skin it for the pelt and keep the meat for later use. However, he was running late for an engagement in the city and did not have a chance to unload it before he had to drive into Manhattan.
Kennedy and some drunk friends decided that it would be funny to dump the bear’s corpse in Central Park (Kennedy insists that he himself was not drunk at this point). They thought someone would find it and get a surprise. Instead, it turned into a small media event, and remained an unsolved mystery until Kennedy revealed his involvement nearly a decade later in August 2024, which he did only because The New Yorker magazine had learned about it and he wanted to get ahead of the story.
