Operation Midway Blitz, to give its official name, is the Trump administration’s attempt to bring its extra-legal deportation roadshow to Chicago. And it wasn’t just ICE – agents of the FBI, U.S. Border Patrol, and ATF were also involved. The people and government of Chicago have not responded positively to this. There were protests by the citizenry and legal action by the Mayor of Chicago and the Governor of Illinois, but the juggernaut rolled on. And just like always, despite the alleged goal being undocumented immigrants, it turned out you were fair game if you were anyone who wasn’t white, with ICE once again demonstrating their “abduct and imprison first, ask questions later if at all” practices.
It reached peak absurdity when ICE agents rappelled from a Black Hawk helicopter into residential buildings in South Shore, cosplaying that they were brave special forces operatives acting in a noble cause rather than the cowardly bullies acting from hatred and prejudice.
