The much-desired male heir of Henry VIII, Edward’s birth was marred by his mother’s post-natal illness and death less than two weeks later. Nonetheless, he was the apple of his father’s eye as an infant, and no effort was spared in ensuring his health and safety. Edward was educated and trained to assume the role of king upon the death of his father. Unfortunately, Henry died was Edward was only ten years old, and a regency commenced until Edward was of age to assume the full duties of the throne.
Sadly, Edward died at the age of 15, and his sister Mary became Queen until her death five years later, when his other sister Elizabeth assumed the throne.
