Catherine Parr was only about 17 when she first married. The marriage had been arranged by her father, Sir Thomas Parr. Her husband, Sir Edward Burgh, was four years her senior, but also not particularly healthy. He would die in 1533, living Catherine widowed, childless and a reasonable prospect for marriage. She would not remain unmarried for long.
