A fictionalised retelling of the life of serial killer Aileen Wuornos, “Monster” starred Charlize Theron as Wuornos and Christina Ricci as her girlfriend. It was directed by Patty Jenkins, who would go on to direct “Wonder Woman”. The was a critical success, garnering rave reviews, especially for Theron’s performance.
Made on a tiny budget of only $1.5 million, it would go on to earn more than $64 million at the box office, and netted Theron an Academy Award for Best Actress, in addition to numerous other accolades.
